7 Reasons You Should Be Using a Body Treatment Spray

When it comes to acne, most people immediately think of those pesky red and white bumps… that they get on their face. That’s probably because 99% of the 60 million Americans who suffer from acne have breakouts on their face. But for about 60% of people living with acne, their symptoms don’t stop at the neck — their pimples appear in areas all over the body, including on their chest, back, shoulders, or even on their butt.

Because body acne (or bacne, however you choose to refer to it) isn’t talked about nearly as much as facial breakouts, it can be embarrassing, troublesome, and frustrating to treat.

You may have heard of medicated body washes, but did you know that there are also body treatment sprays intended to target stubborn body acne?! Convenient, easy to use, and most importantly, effective, a medicated spray has the potential to keep your body breakout-free and provide a much-needed solution for anyone struggling with body acne.

Intrigued by body treatment sprays but not quite convinced? SLMD recently released their Acne Body Spray, which inspired us to make this list… 7 sensible signs that a spray might be for you!

You should consider a body treatment spray if…

1. Your body wash isn’t exactly cutting it.

Don’t get us wrong: body washes are a great way to deep clean those pimple-prone parts of your body and they’re an important part of many people’s anti-bacne regimen. (It’s part of the reason we’re obsessed with SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Body Wash!) But for more severe or stubborn acne, a simple suds may not be enough to keep breakouts at bay entirely.

In the same way that you’d wash your face and then apply a treatment serum or cream, a body treatment spray keeps working to fight bacne well after you’ve rinsed, dried and gotten dressed. If nothing else seems to be working, try pairing your medicated wash with a treatment spray to create a dynamic duo that will leave your skin clean, clear and healthy.

2. You tend to break out when you workout.

Nothing feels better than getting your sweat on, but if you’re not careful, your hour of cardio can be counterproductive on acne-prone skin. While sweating doesn’t cause acne, if you don’t clean your skin after you sweat, bacteria combines with any clogged pores and can result in pesky pimples.

Most people who notice breakouts after a session at the gym usually find them on their chest, shoulders, back, and butt… or anywhere that sweat-soaked clothing (like a sports bra or those super cute but super tight leggings) might press against your skin.

Fun fact: This is actually folliculitis, not acne, and it’s what happens when pores get clogged as a result of pressure from workout gear or clothing. Aside from changing ASAP and keeping your workout clothes and gear washed and thoroughly dried, a BHA-rich body treatment spray can work to clear out clogged pores.

Say what? BHA = beta hydroxy acids, which are keratolytic acids that help break down dead skin cells and clear out clogged pores. That’s important because clogged pores turn into inflammatory acne when bacteria begin to eat away at the dead skin cells and natural oils that get stuck in your skin.

3. You sometimes have to skip showers after a good sweat.

In an ideal world we would all have the extra time that it takes to unwind and de-grit after a workout, but sometimes, life happens, and we have to head out the door quicker than we might like to. That, or you’re squeezing your workout in midday before class or on a lunch break and showering just isn’t realistic. Whatever the reason you can’t find the time to shower after you’ve been getting your sweat on, the best way to avoid breakouts down the road is to clean the acne-prone parts of your skin before rushing onto the next thing. A body wipe followed by a few spritzes of treatment spray can do the trick, but if you’re in a huge hurry, you can spritz on the go just be sure to shower as soon as possible.

4. You’ve got little bumps on your skin that refuse to disappear.

Got stubborn little spots on your body you want gone ASAP? Whether they’re open comedones (aka blackheads) or closed comedones that look like hard, white spots (aka whiteheads), treatment sprays are ideal for getting rid of these acne building blocks. For a simple but effective fix, try treating them with salicylic acid, which is commonly used to combat all types of acne, from cysts to blackheads and is derived from Salicin, an anti-inflammatory naturally found in willow tree bark. SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Body Spray relies on a 2% salicylic acid solution to unclog pores, reduce bacteria and stimulate skin cell turnover.

5. You want a daytime and nighttime solution.

If you’re exhausted by AM and PM rituals (necessary but annoying, we understand) take solace in the fact that SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Body Spray can be used any time, day or night, to fight your breakouts. Whether it’s before work, post-workout, or as a part of your nighttime routine, using salicylic is totally safe, whatever time of day it is.

6. You’re almost always on the go.

Work. Gym. Happy hour. Boyfriend’s house… Back to work. Listen, we get it. When you live out of your car (or your purse) and don’t have time to run home for a shower between activities (or when wipes won’t quite reach those awkward areas like the middle of the back) a spray-on solution you can keep with you can be a lifesaver. That’s yet another reason we love SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Body Spray — it’s got a 360-degree spray bottle that can even be used when held upside down, meaning you can still point, spritz and cover all those hard to reach places no matter where you are.

7. You want clear skin in time for summer.

If you struggle with bacne of any kind you know how frustrating it is when all your friends are sporting tanks and backless tops and you’re feeling the need to cover up from head to toe, despite the heat. Tackling your bacne can be made easy with a body spray, no matter how minor, mild or severe your acne can get. Just a few spritzes onto affected areas can make for a great start to an acne-free summer!

In short, a solid body treatment spray can help you have your fun, without compromising your complexion. Ready to try one out? Check out SLMD’s Salicylic Acid Body Spray!
