What is… Keratolytic Therapy?

Keratolytic therapy can be used to thin areas of skin that have become excessively thick. By softening keratin on the skin’s surface, keratolyic therapies and treatments can be used to remove many types of skin lesions, including warts, acne, and cradle cap.

Keratolyic therapy can use a range of chemicals (sometimes called keratolyics) including sulfur, salicylic acid, urea, allantoin, and lactic acid to loosen, soften, and remove stubborn layers of keratin. Keratolytic therapy or keratolic agents can also be used in stubborn cases of dandruff and other scalp disorders.
